Abstract

Background Evaluating peripheral nerve response after injury or repair remains a critical clinical challenge. Current medical imaging approaches provide limited insight into the degenerative or regenerative environment of affected nerves. Purpose To assess the efficacy of ultrashort echo time (UTE) quantitative MRI (qMRI) for evaluating peripheral nerve degeneration and regeneration in rat models of sciatic nerve injury and to assess correlations between UTE qMRI parameters and histologic findings. Materials and Methods In this animal study conducted from November 2022 to December 2023, four experimental groups were created in 6-8-week-old male Lewis rats:
