Spring 2016

Editors-in-Chief :

Guest Editor: Thomas McInerny MD, FAAP, Professor Emeritus, Department of Pediatrics, University of Rochester Medical School; Past President, American Academy of Pediatrics

Published by CHILDREN AT RISK and the Texas Medical Center Library and edited by the CHILDREN AT RISK Institute, the Journal of Applied Research on Children (JARC) serves to inform policy affecting children by providing applicable research to the public, child advocates, and policymakers on timely children's issues. Providing practical case studies and research on the transformative potential of policy change, JARC issues provide a powerful link between data and policy solutions to strengthen the arguments of child advocates across the country.

For the twelfth issue, 50 Years after the Declaration of the War on Poverty: Historic Victories and New Challenges, the CHILDREN AT RISK Institute invites research concerning: the state of economic disparity in America today; past problems which have been ameliorated; the social and cognitive effects of poverty on children; and new obstacles to decreasing poverty and how our institutions can overcome them.

The CHILDREN AT RISK Institute is seeking articles that include data-oriented evidence on the most pressing poverty-related issues and what programs and policies are needed to combat these issues.

The Journal of Applied Research on Children (jarc.childrenatrisk.org) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal that is indexed in CINAHL and SocINDEX. Its target audience includes child advocates, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers who are concerned about children and families. Since its launch, journal articles have been downloaded over 72,000 times. The submission and peer review process are completed entirely online. Authors are encouraged to take advantage of the journal's online format by including videos, interactive charts, or links to online resources. Submissions will follow the journal's regular blind review process. The guest editors and journal editor will make the final acceptance decisions. Manuscripts must strictly conform to the formatting and writing style requirements of the AMA Manual of Style.

We encourage interested authors to submit an abstract of their proposed manuscripts to jarc@childrenatrisk.org by September 7, 2015. Regardless of submitting an abstract, the final submission deadline for papers is December 1, 2015. To view past issues of the journal, please visit jarc.childrenatrisk.org. Prospective authors may contact Marissa Johnston, Editorial Coordinator at mjohnston@childrenatrisk.org.
