Dana AlHasan, The University of Texas School of Public Health

Abstract

mHealth, mobile health, has huge potential in combating chronic diseases. As chronic diseases are at a high prevalence in the Kingdom of Bahrain, there is great interest to develop future mHealth apps. Before such development may take place, the study aimed to discover if the foundation of mHealth implementation exists. Through 9 interviews of various stakeholders in the Ministry of Health and hospitals, a qualitative analysis was conducted. The emerging themes answered the following questions: Is there a supportive environment for mHealth; is there a demand and need for mHealth; and is mHealth implementation feasible? The authors conclude that Bahrain serves an opportunity to implement mHealth and combat chronic diseases with implementation recommended to focus on lifestyle factors among the general population.
