Abstract

The quality improvement project aimed to implement a Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) care delivery model to increase patient satisfaction with their hospital experience. Increasing patient satisfaction was measured by the Net Promoter Score (NPS), and improvement would be evidenced by an increase of 40% (NPS) within four months of the implementation of trauma-informed care (TIC) principles in the inpatient psychiatric facility. The NPS served as a proxy measure for the successful implementation of this quality improvement project. The intervention integrated TIC training through the HealthStream platform, a skills fair, interactive sessions, a guidebook, and continuous data monitoring. Weekly meetings, educational materials, and policy updates reinforced the intervention. Standardized assessments were used to evaluate adherence to TIC principles and measure outcomes. Using a pre- and post-intervention design, the project measured patient satisfaction. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the effectiveness of the intervention and quantitative measures. The results in those 4 months showed a 44.2% improvement in net promoter scores and staff competence in applying TIC principles, showing the intervention’s effectiveness in creating a supportive environment and increasing patient satisfaction. This project is part of a larger system implemented in other hospitals within the organization. Future projects should explore advanced applications of TIC principles and consistent leadership within the organization. The project emphasizes integrating TIC principles into healthcare practices to improve patient care and promote organizational change.
