Giovanni Maria Lancisi, physician to several popes and one of the most influential medical figures of the early eighteenth century, made significant contributions to the study of anatomy and disease. This collection of his writings brings together a variety of medical investigations, including studies of the heart, circulation, and pathological anatomy. Lancisi emphasized careful observation of the body and its organs, helping to advance the emerging scientific understanding of disease. Works such as this illustrate how Enlightenment physicians increasingly examined specific anatomical structures to explain the causes of illness.
