The League raised enough money to purchase the mobile unit in 1942 after a very successful seal campaign. Due to wartime shortages of x-ray film and equipment, the opening was delayed until 1945. It was the first mobile unit used for large scale operation in the Southwest. They set a goal of 30,000 x-rays for 1945, and in 1952 they set a US record of 109,036 x-rays in a year. Emmeline Renis said, “I want to make it more convenient to go through the mobile unit than around it.”
