John P. McGovern, MD Collection of Texas Historical Medical Documents

This fifty-dollar Texas "Redback" banknote (c.1839) was introduced during the Texas Revolution to establish a stable monetary system. Popularly known as "redbacks," they featured striking red ink on the reverse side with intricate designs showcasing the spirit of Texas, ranging from the Texas flag, the iconic "Lone Star" symbol, and portraits of Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin.
