Author Biographical Info

Hermann Hospital was a public hospital endowed by George Hermann (1843-1914) with a fortune accumulated through investments in oil and real estate. The hospital opened south of downtown Houston in the summer of 1925. It merged with Memorial Hospital in 1999 to create Memorial Hermann Health System. The original Spanish-style building is now part of Children's Memorial Hermann in the northwest corner of the Medical Center.

Description

This is a black and white photograph of the main entrance of Hermann Hospital. The statue in front of the doors is an original sculpture from the 1925 building. Today this part of the hospital has been built over and the Patio of the old Main Entrance is no longer accessible. The name of the photography company is in the bottom right corner, Schlueter’s Houston Tex. indicating this is a photo done by Frank J. Schlueter. His negatives might be numbered and this may be one of his earliest photographs. This is the same shot as IC086-b431-f11-019.
