The Archives contains more than 300 collections consisting of about 8,000 boxes of personal papers and institutional records. Particular subject strengths include the Texas Medical Center, the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission, John P. McGovern papers, R. Lee Clark papers, University of Texas Medical School records, and Baylor College of Medicine records. The McGovern Historical Center has two types of archival collections: Manuscript Collections and Institutional Collections.

The following finding aids are organized into three groups. Institutional Collections, Manuscript Collections and Rare Book Collections. Collections are organized by number in ascending order.

  • Institutional collections are designated by "IC" plus a number followed by "Guide to " and title of the collections, such as " IC 002 Guide to Texas Medical Center Records, 1907-2019".
  • Manuscripts are designated by "MS" plus a number followed by the title of the collection. For example, the papers of Ernest Bertner appear as "MS 002 Guide to the Ernst W. Bertner, MD papers".
  • Rare Books collections are designated by "RB" plus a number followed by followed by "Guide to " and the title of the collections, such as RB003 Guide to Dow Collection on Dentistry.
