John Earl Cutler MD was born March 3, 1877, probably in Canaan, Ohio. He practiced allopathic medicine. He earned a medical degree in 1903 from Eclectic Medical College, Eclectic Medical Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was licensed in Ohio in 1903 and in Texas in 1907. He was practicing medicine in Crosby, Texas by 1903 and later in Houston, Texas around July 17, 1922. Dr. Cutler served as the Harris County Health Officer in 1908 and 1909. He died in 1929 in Crosby, Texas, of stomach cancer and was buried in Houston's Forest Park Cemetery.

Abstract

The John Earl Cutler, MD papers contains 5 ledgers and some loose business-related papers, including two ledger books in which Dr. Cutler recorded patient fees and fees he paid to suppliers. The ledgers cover the years 1918 to 1922. Dr. Cutler recorded the names of his patients and the companies that paid for his services. He also recorded the drugs dispensed and the cost. He rarely mentions symptoms, which he treats. There are some loose receipts for repairs to Dr. Cutler's Franklin automobile and purchases from drug wholesalers. See more at MS 116.

The 1903-1906, 1923-1928, and 1925-1928 ledgers were donated by Dr. Cutler's grandson, also John E. Cutler, 2005 November 8. Letter in OV 307. No accruals are expected for this collection.
