Philosophy of Journal of Digital Psychiatry

Who Can Submit?

Anyone may submit an original article to be considered for publication in Journal of Digital Psychiatry provided he or she owns the copyright to the work being submitted or is authorized by the copyright owner or owners to submit the article. Authors are the initial owners of the copyrights to their works (an exception in the non-academic world to this might exist if the authors have, as a condition of employment, agreed to transfer copyright to their employer). Submission of a manuscript doesn’t guarantee a publication. The chief editor has the ultimate decision on publishing in the journal.

In the case of minor, unintentional infractions, authors will be contacted by editorial staff and asked to make the necessary corrections and add appropriate attributions and references to sources before the article can be accepted.

General Submission Rules

Submitted articles cannot have been previously published, nor be forthcoming in an archival journal or book (print or electronic). Please note: "publication" in a working-paper series does not constitute prior publication. In addition, by submitting material to Journal of Digital Psychiatry, the author is stipulating that the material is not currently under review at another journal (electronic or print) and that he or she will not submit the material to another journal (electronic or print) until the completion of the editorial decision process at Journal of Digital Psychiatry. Author(s) must accept full responsibility for the content of their submitted works. Articles submitted must be the original work of the Author(s), and must not have been previously published; nor can they be pending review elsewhere, until this Journal’s editorial decision process is complete. By submitting your work, you represent and warrant that the work meets all the above stipulations.

Article Processing Charges

Currently there is no article processing charges for publishing in our journal.

Further in regard to originality: intentional plagiarism, including re-publication of one’s own work with only minor modifications, is not tolerated by Journal of Digital Psychiatry. When plagiarism is detected by peer reviewers or journal editorial staff, the article will be rejected, and further action may be taken, to include notification of any institutions and funding agencies connected with the authors and the research discussed.

Manuscript types

The journal publishes following manuscript types:

Original Article: An article describing a novel study or finding or presenting a new method (up to 5000 words, excluding references and up to 6 tables/figures)

Short Communications: a manuscript with a novel study that doesn't reach to length of an article (up to 2000 words, 20 references, 2 tables/figures)

Innovation: A manuscript that focused on what is on the horizon with new advances. It doesn't necessarily be trial based study (up to 2000 words, 20 references, 2 tables/figures)

Reviews: comprehensive review of subject or theme that is within scope of the journal (up to 8000 words, excluding references and up to 10 tables/figures)

Editorials and News: Editorials are primarily solicited by the Editor, but brief commentaries can be submitted for consideration. Letters critical of an article published in the Journal must be received within 4 weeks of the article’s publication may be published in editorial section. Letters received after the deadline will not be considered for publication; those considered will be sent to the article’s corresponding author to reply on behalf of the group, which will represent the final say on the matter. No additional letters discussing an exchange editorial will be considered. Such letters must include the title and author of the article and the month and year of publication. Exciting news and new developments will be published in news section. News and commentaries may be subject to peer review (up to 1000 words, 10 references, 1 table/figure). The editors may also invite authors for manuscripts in various fields that are also subject to review. If published, those manuscripts will have a statement of “invited” status.

Formatting Requirements

Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the AMA Manual of Style, 10th edition. Manuscripts must be submitted as high-quality PDF (Adobe's Portable Document Format), Microsoft Word, or WordPerfect or RTF files that can be converted to PDF. See Final Manuscript Preparation Guidelines for details. Although bepress can provide limited technical support, it is ultimately the responsibility of the author to produce an electronic version of the article as a high-quality PDF (Adobe's Portable Document Format) file, or a Microsoft Word, WordPerfect or RTF file that can be converted to a PDF file.

It is understood that the current state of technology of Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF) is such that there are no, and can be no, guarantees that documents in PDF will work perfectly with all possible hardware and software configurations that readers may have.

Rights for Authors and DigitalCommons@TMC

As further described in our submission agreement (the Submission Agreement), in consideration for publication of the article, the authors assign to DigitalCommons@TMC all copyright in the article, subject to the expansive personal--use exceptions described below.

Attribution and Usage Policies

Reproduction, posting, transmission or other distribution or use of the article or any material therein, in any medium as permitted by a personal-use exemption or by written agreement of DigitalCommons@TMC, requires credit to DigitalCommons@TMC as copyright holder (e.g., DigitalCommons@TMC © 2022).

Personal-use Exceptions

The following uses are always permitted to the author(s) and do not require further permission from DigitalCommons@TMC provided the author does not alter the format or content of the articles, including the copyright notification:

  • Storage and back-up of the article on the author's computer(s) and digital media (e.g., diskettes, back-up servers, Zip disks, etc.), provided that the article stored on these computers and media is not readily accessible by persons other than the author(s);
  • Posting of the article on the author(s) personal website, provided that the website is non-commercial;
  • Posting of the article on the internet as part of a non-commercial open access institutional repository or other non-commercial open access publication site affiliated with the author(s)'s place of employment (e.g., a Phrenology professor at the University of Southern North Dakota can have her article appear in the University of Southern North Dakota's Department of Phrenology online publication series); and
  • Posting of the article on a non-commercial course website for a course being taught by the author at the university or college employing the author.

General Terms and Conditions of Use

Users of the DigitalCommons@TMC website and/or software agree not to misuse the DigitalCommons@TMC service or software in any way.

The failure of DigitalCommons@TMC to exercise or enforce any right or provision in the policies or the Submission Agreement does not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. If any term of the Submission Agreement or these policies is found to be invalid, the parties nevertheless agree that the court should endeavor to give effect to the parties' intentions as reflected in the provision, and the other provisions of the Submission Agreement and these policies remain in full force and effect. These policies and the Submission Agreement constitute the entire agreement between DigitalCommons@TMC and the Author(s) regarding submission of the Article.

Social Media Dissemination of Published Work

Certain written, audio or video medium might be available to disseminate published academic work. Published papers maybe promoted and shared written, verbally or visually through not limited to by Twitter, podcast or video channels by the editorial team. Please contact to the editor, if you are interested in additional digital media platform dissemination
